WISE WORDS: "The Invitation"

We have a great passion for songwriting, poetry and wise words to live by because you can draw a whole lot of inspiration from them.

Therefore we keep tons of little black books in our drawers - each of them filled with smart one-liners and clever thoughts - and would like to share one, that's close to our heart.

"The Invitation" by Oriah

It doesn't interest me
what you do for a living.
I want to know
what you ache for
and if you dare to dream
of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me
how old you are.
I want to know
if you will risk looking like a fool for love
for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

I want to know if you can sit with pain.
Mine or your own.
Without moving to hide it, or fade it, or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy.
Mine or your own.
If you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes.
Without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic,
to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me
if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can dissapoint another to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty
even when it's not pretty everyday.
And if you can source your own life from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure.
Yours and mine.
And still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon:

I doesn't interest me
where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair,
weary and bruised to the bone,
and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me
who you know or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me
and not shrink back.
It doesn't interest me
where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself.
And if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

FAIRYTALES: Once upon a time

A great percentage of wonderful stories begins with the four famous words "Once upon a time..."

So we figured, it might be a promising start to dedicate our first proper post to them:
Here's a selection of illustrations I made last spring, for a book of fairytales, including traditional stories by Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm. In contrast to the original, old-fashioned tales I tried to give the illustrations a modern uptake and more contemporary feel.

Dornröschen/The sleeping beauty

Schneewittchen/Snow White

Schneewittchen/´Snow White

Die kleine Meerjungfrau/The Little mermaid

Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot/Snowwhite and Redrose

Jorinde und Joringel/Jorinde and Joringel

BLOG-BABY: Please be gentle

We've been meaning to start a blog for quite some time now.

And even though it seems like such a normal thing to do these days - since, apparently, everybody's doing it - we're new at this. But we've poured a lot of work, love and soul into this little blog-baby of ours - so, to see it finally come to life is awesome! Yet it can get a bit overwhelming at times, which is why we gently ask you to be patient and overlooking while we are still busy figuring out the best ways to present and share our work and thoughts.

ELISABETHA&ADAM is a collaborative art-project, that I, Laura, form with my sister Gwenda:
I am mainly doing Fashion Illustration and Design, while Gwendas' focus lies on Film and Photography.
Currently we're developping a handful of yet-to-be-named-projects, which we're excited to be sharing with you really soon!

For now, to all art lovers out there: We genuinely hope you'll enjoy our upcoming creative pieces, possibly find some Inspiration and feel free to leave a feedback!
Or, using Kurt Vonneguts' words:
"The function of the artist is to make people like life better than they have before."

Have a good one, lots of love.
Laura&Gwenda, xo.
